FC in dire financial straits, it was COAST who took centre stage as the 3 o'clock whistle blew at the Saints Aid Music Festival.
Saints Aid was organised by a group of ardent Saints supporters with the aim of raising contingency funds for the football club whose parent company had gone into administration and were in danger of disappearing off the face of the Earth altogether if an investor couldn't be found.
They came up with the idea of holding a music event at St Mary's stadium involving local bands.
On hearing about the event COAST didn't hesitate to volunteer their services and the organisers, having been directed at COAST's myspace page, loved what they were hearing and granted COAST a slot on the bill.
A couple of weeks before the Saints Aid festival, COAST were approached by the organisers to help write, perform and produce the offical Saints Aid single. Initially this was going to be a collaboration between some of the bands performing at Saints Aid but in the end organisers decided to ask COAST to come up with the song on their own.
This 'call to arms' came on Wednesday 13th May at 8.00am and COAST had a 48 hour deadline to meet in order to get the single out for publicity purposes.
By noon on the same Wednesday the music and words for 'Colours' had been penned by COAST lead guitarist Chris Lappage and presented to the rest of the band later that day. That same evening, the band congregated in the studio to record the song and in a whirlwind 6 hours from hurried conception, a short gestation period and a not too painful birth (some strong beer taking the place of an epidural!) the official Saints Aid song was born!
On Saturday 16th May the official song was emailed to Saints Aid organisers and by midday was being played all around the stadium making grown men cry.
